My happy place is my work. I had such a fun time competing @float2024 Was it stressful? Sure, but no more than a normal weekend in this biz. And I thrive on a deadline, and I thrive on creating something new- two reasons running this business is such an amazing adventure. FLOAT is a premier international advanced balloon artist convention. There were over 900 delegates and 8 of us (it was 10 but 2 dropped) competed for the title of Designer of the Year. In my industry, it’s prestigious. And pinch me because I’m still accepting that I earned this. I entered four of the five competitions (our top three scores counted towards DOTY), and I was so happy that we successfully executed and placed in each category. I was happy to compete. Happy to design. Happy to cheer on the other artists working besides me, because we were all working our booties off. I came to FLOAT to compete. I knew it would force me to become a better artist. To improve my skills. To focus. And it really brought the best out in my business since the moment I decided to do so. It improved my skills, and my confidence. Would I have ever proposed a leg lamp sculpture to a client if I didn’t decide to do so? I can’t say yes, because practicing and creating projects from scratch, like our linking UFO gave me the confidence to sell things I hadn’t made, and had to create a recipe for. I’m going to be reallly real for a minute… I’m not a pay attention to me kind of person. I’m a pay attention to my work girl. I’m a put my head down, and grind til it’s done kind of girl. I love to teach. I love to build other people up, and tell them they deserve all the things, but don’t always give myself the same grace or think I deserve it. I’m still accepting I earned this I’m going to get back to the work now, but I’m also going to make an effort to show my face a little more. I’m going to do more of the things that make me feel uncomfortable, it’s the only way we grow. And I’m ready for it. I always say I am so lucky to do what I love for a living. In reality luck has very little to do with it. It’s a lot of work, but I do love the opportunity to be a creative for a living, to bring the visions my customers to life sometimes with a gasp or tears of joy, and to create lasting memories and relationships that last for years. Organic photo opp was our last event of the three day competition and we were beat, the chatter was low as we buckled down to fringe out our mesh frame, bend conduit to conduit so we could make a “roof”, inflate 18 inch (to match size of the disco balls) and 5 inch balloons, distort flowers, make beads, and hang disco balls for depth. Hayley @lifesaparty_indy hands were cramping Iykyk, and Shanna was the inflation and bead master as I styled our organic foil and latex elements. Just like this weekend, my business also thrives because of my team and I am so grateful to have them. That wraps up competition! Results tonight! Our first piece for Designer of the Year @float2024 competition was large sculpture. Thank you @gemarballoons and @anagramballoons for sponsoring the competition I designed an AREA 51 alien disco party titled AREA 54 I created the pattern for a linking flying saucer which was 10 foot in the air. My team made duplet walls, and wove a bell bottom alien space suit. We distorted the alien heads and bodies out of balloons. It took a full team to pull this off in our 12 hour time frame. I’m so proud of the creativity in my design and the skill of my teammates. They did fantastic at making my sketch come to life. This weekend we competed with 9 other balloon designers for Designer of the year @float2024 We really pushed ourselves in design and endurance to create 4 pieces: organic photo opp, foil sculpture, large sculpture, and centerpiece. We themed everything disco with a death by disco, studio fifty-forest, area 54 alien dance party, and disco styled centerpiece. It was so much fun to be in the room for three days with such other incredible artists. Everyone was amazing! Their designs will be posted in the stories, and more of ours to come

This rail garland was the perfect place for a monster truck celebration garland for my cutest little delivery helper. Moms! (Dads too) Kids love watching us install balloons and they love helping more. We don’t discourage curiosity or helpfulness and may put them to “work” handing us balloons to help create their own party garlands. This is normal and expected behavior. We will only ask you to distract them in another room if they try to climb ladders, start putting our balloons in their mouth or do other behaviors that can harm them, or break equipment. Wow! Looking back at 2023 is crazy! I was going to pick my faves, but who can choose? So here is my top 100 of 2023. I was so lucky to work with so many amazing clients and venues and on new creative projects…. the disco wall, the leg lamp, the tunnels, and the loads and loads of garlands. We really work hard to make every event just right, and treat them as if they were our very own event when it’s time to execute. I owe everything to all of you for believing in us, and for choosing us to be a part of YOUR very special moments over and over. I cherish the relationships so many of us have built over the years as I get to step into your life for brief moments of time over and over again. I really do love what I do because I love so many of you. This was our 10th year in business, and to be in this business for so long, you have to really love it. It’s very early mornings, late nights, and weekends. We show up before and after events but seldom get to attend. I can go weeks without a full day off, and work over 40 hours in a weekend after a full work week. And I may be the face and owner of my business, but it takes a lot of people to help me do what I do. I have an incredible team behind me to make things run smoothly, and for them I am so grateful. I had an absolute blast assisting the team at @jkippolito turning @chickiesbanquets into Heaven and Hell on earth. We transformed the venue into a captivating blend of angelic white and fiery red, combining heavenly elements like billowy clouds and elegant white decor with devilish details such as flame-inspired lighting and red-hot accessories. I used white chiffon draping and created balloon clouds filed with fluff coming down from the ceiling over the dance floor and red flames in a balloon garland emerging from the floor. Disco balls were used throughout the room and in the balloon garland for that party feel. The end result was a visual extravaganza that set the stage for a night of heavenly delights and devilish fun!
